Background of the Study
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming healthcare by enabling data-driven decision-making, predictive analytics, and personalized care. Nurses, as essential members of healthcare teams, play a crucial role in the adoption and integration of AI technologies (International Journal of Nursing Studies [IJNS], 2024).
At Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, the integration of AI has been introduced in areas such as diagnostic support, patient monitoring, and workflow optimization. However, nurses’ attitudes toward AI significantly influence its acceptance and effective implementation. Positive attitudes can facilitate smooth integration, while negative perceptions may hinder its utilization and benefits (Ojo & Bello, 2023).
This study examines nurses’ attitudes toward AI integration in healthcare at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, providing insights into their perceptions and readiness for technological advancement.
Statement of the Problem
The integration of AI in healthcare offers numerous opportunities for improving efficiency and patient outcomes. However, at Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, the success of AI implementation depends on the attitudes of nurses who interact with these systems. Factors such as fear of job displacement, lack of technical knowledge, and ethical concerns contribute to resistance to AI adoption.
Understanding nurses’ attitudes toward AI is crucial for addressing these concerns and ensuring the successful integration of AI technologies in healthcare settings.
Objectives of the Study
1. To assess nurses’ attitudes toward the integration of AI in healthcare at Federal Medical Centre, Katsina.
2. To identify factors influencing nurses’ perceptions of AI technologies.
3. To recommend strategies for fostering positive attitudes toward AI adoption among nurses.
Research Questions
1. What are nurses’ attitudes toward the integration of AI in healthcare at Federal Medical Centre, Katsina?
2. What factors influence nurses’ perceptions of AI technologies?
3. What strategies can enhance nurses’ acceptance of AI in healthcare?
Research Hypotheses
1. Nurses’ attitudes toward AI integration vary significantly.
2. Factors such as fear of job displacement and ethical concerns negatively influence nurses’ perceptions of AI.
3. Training and education programs can improve nurses’ attitudes toward AI adoption.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on nurses at Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, and their attitudes toward AI in healthcare. It excludes other healthcare professionals and non-clinical staff. Limitations include potential bias in self-reported attitudes and the exclusion of long-term perspectives on AI integration.
Definitions of Terms
